Hey guys! Grace Nask here with Day 13 of the April Challenge. Sorry I missed yesterday, but since I'm Catholic I celebrated Easter. Anyway, today we have Is Stealing Wrong?, a poem for all ages about a thief. So here we go!
For Maddie, whose birthday is today.
Is Stealing Wrong?
By: Grace Nask
I am a thief.
I take what I want.
A seashell from Oscar,
And a lucky stone too.
A thin gold bracelet,
And a silver key ring.
An Indian head nickel,
And a ruby-studded band--
All these I take.
I am a thief.
I take what I need.
The beaming face of my uncle,
And the lucrative grin bestowed by Father.
Popularity all throughout the school,
And the grades to match it.
The smiling eyes of ladies passing by,
And the risk of the hunt--
All these I claim as my own.
I am a thief.
I take what is lost.
The booming laugh of Father when stabbed with a D
And trips to the seashore to collect my own shells.
Forest adventures with little Oscar,
And the light punch of a girl who’s just a friend.
Mother’s friendly smile when I say something I shouldn’t
And the attention of the room without the halo of an
A wrapped around me--
All these I hold close.
I am a thief.
I take what I am not.
I pilfer
And steal
When I have nothing left to give.
